There are generally two reasons to take the SSAT®:
The SSAT® is designed for students in grades 5 through 11 and is administered on two levels:
The SSAT® is offered 8 times per year on Saturday mornings. There is typically one test date in each of the following months: October, November, December, January, February, March, April, and June.
The SSAT® (Secondary School Admission Test) is a standardized multiple-choice test for students in grades 5-11. The test consists of four separately timed sections: 1 verbal, 2 math, and 1 reading comprehension. The verbal questions test the student’s vocabulary, verbal reasoning, and ability to relate ideas logically. The math questions test the student’s ability to solve problems involving arithmetic, elementary algebra and geometry, and general number concepts. The reading comprehension section tests the student’s ability to understand a written passage.
The SSAT® also requires the student to write a brief essay on an assigned topic. While the essay is not graded, a copy of it is sent to schools along with the student’s verbal, math, and reading scores.
